Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo has opened up about the criticism he faced early in his marriage, revealing how public perception shaped part of his journey.
Speaking during an interview on With Chude hosted by Chude Jideonwo, he reflected on his relationship with his late wife, who was three years older than him.
In his words, “I married a woman who was 3 years older than me, and people called me a gold digger.”
According to him, the criticism largely came from media narratives at the time, especially during the era of soft-sell magazines. He explained that many assumed he married for financial gain, a claim he strongly rejected.
RMD clarified that his late wife was a working professional in the media industry and not someone with extraordinary wealth. He noted that the assumption that he married for money did not reflect the reality of their relationship.
Rather than respond to the criticism, he said he chose to focus on building his career and maintaining his personal values. He adopted a mindset of staying grounded and allowing his life choices to speak for themselves.
He also shared that the experience taught him resilience, especially in dealing with public opinions and misconceptions. Over time, he continued to grow professionally, moving across different fields, including acting, media, and public service.
Reflecting on his journey, RMD emphasized the importance of authenticity and staying true to one’s decisions despite external pressure.
His story adds to broader conversations about societal expectations in relationships and how public figures navigate criticism……See More
