In comments to the press, Trump dismissed any diplomatic initiatives, asserting that the United States is in a dominant position. “I don’t care if they return to discussions,” he stated. “They Understand the rules.”
The president reaffirmed the US policy that “Iran will never possess a nuclear weapon,” a statement he has consistently made during his presidency, and it now holds greater significance as US naval forces position themselves to intercept ships of any country that attempt to go to or come from Iranian ports.
The blockade declared by US Central Command authorizes Navy personnel to stop, board, and reroute vessels passing through this crucial maritime area, which is responsible for nearly 20% of global oil movement.
Opponents caution that this action might lead to a wider military conflict, particularly after a delicate ceasefire was established just a week ago. Nevertheless, Trump appears to be uninterested in maintaining the ceasefire, insisting on a strategy of maximum pressure.
“They want to negotiate, that’s fine; if they don’t, I don’t care,” he remarked. “But one thing is clear, Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”
