According to Aljazeera News, the US Navy has attacked and seized an Iranian vessel in the Gulf of Oman, drawing sharp condemnation from Tehran, which called the operation an act of piracy and threatened retaliation. The incident threatens to derail fragile US-Iran negotiations currently hosted by Pakistan.
According to US officials, the ship was intercepted for allegedly transporting illicit weapons to regional proxies. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards rejected the claim, accusing Washington of violating international maritime law. “The US military’s action is an act of piracy and will not go unanswered, an Iranian statement read.
The seizure comes as US and Iranian diplomats are holding indirect talks in Islamabad, mediated by Pakistani officials, aimed at reviving constraints on Tehran’s nuclear program and easing sanctions. Analysts now fear the naval confrontation could collapse the dialogue.
