According to Jerusalem Post, Turkish prosecutors have indicted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 35 other Israeli officials, seeking a collective prison sentence of 4,596 years over the October 2025 naval interception of the “Sumud” Gaza flotilla.
The indictment, filed in an Istanbul court, accuses the Israeli officials of crimes including murder, attempted murder, and piracy. The flotilla organized by Turkish and international activists, was attempting to breach Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza when Israeli commandos boarded the lead vessel. Turkish officials say eight Turkish citizens were killed.
Netanyahu dismissed the case as absurd. Israeli far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir responded to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with an expletive, “Tell Erdogan to go fuck himself. Netanyahu later accused Turkey of massacring Kurds, calling Erdogan’s government a genocidal regime.
Turkey’s Foreign Ministry fired back sharply. “Netanyahu is the Hitler of our time, the ministry said in a statement, vowing to pursue justice by all legal means.
Legal analysts note the 4,596-year figure appears symbolic, derived by multiplying the number of victims by maximum sentences.
