According to Aljazeera News, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian praised his country’s military capabilities, following U.S. airstrikes in southern Iran that Washington described as acts of self-defence.
The strikes, which targeted what the Pentagon called militant-backed weapons storage sites, mark a significant escalation in regional tensions. Tehran swiftly condemned the attacks as a gross violation of existing ceasefire agreements.
Speaking at a military ceremony broadcast on state television, Pezeshkian struck a defiant tone, emphasizing Iran’s readiness to respond to any threat.
“Our armed forces are among the most powerful in the region, and any enemy that miscalculates our defensive capabilities will face a decisive response, Pezeshkian said. “We do not seek war, but we will never back down from defending our sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The U.S. operation, which reportedly caused limited casualties and damage, was carried out in response to what American officials described as a series of drone and rocket attacks on U.S. personnel stationed in Iraq and Syria.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Swiss ambassador, who represents U.S. interests in Tehran, to formally protest the strikes. In a statement, the ministry reiterated that “such aggressive acts are a gross violation of international law and the ceasefire framework.
