The President Wants Me Back In The Senate Because Of The Importance Of The e-Governance Bill -Salisu

The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally expressed interest in his return to the National Assembly in the 2027 general elections.

He made the disclosure over the weekend while addressing journalists, noting that the discussion with the President relates to ongoing legislative work currently progressing in the Senate.

Salisu spoke shortly after concluding a two-week digital literacy training programme organised for young people across Ogun Central.

The programme also included the distribution of laptop computers to more than 350 unemployed youths and graduates selected from the six local government areas within the senatorial district.

He explained that the initiative was designed to improve digital skills and expand access to technology among beneficiaries.

The senator further explained that the training exercise was carried out in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy as well as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

According to him, the collaboration was aimed at strengthening digital capacity among Nigerian youths and promoting broader inclusion in the evolving digital space.

He noted that the President’s interest in his return to the Senate is linked to key legislative responsibilities he is currently handling.

Salisu said that certain bills at an advanced stage of consideration in the National Assembly are of strategic importance to the administration’s digital transformation agenda, which requires continuity and focused legislative attention.

He particularly referenced the National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, which he is sponsoring and which has already passed its third reading stage in the Senate.

He explained that the proposed law is intended to serve as a major policy instrument in driving Nigeria’s transition into a fully digital economy and improving governance systems through technology.

According to him, the Bill is expected to update and harmonise existing legal structures with present-day technological realities.

He stated that many of Nigeria’s current laws were developed in a pre-digital era and no longer adequately reflect the demands of a modern, data-driven society.

He added that the legislation is designed to bridge that gap and support the country’s shift toward digital governance frameworks.

“The president wants me back in the Senate because of the importance of the National Digital Economy and e-Governance Bill. While the society has gone digital our laws are still analog. But the bill will ensure that our analog laws are modernised to go in tandem with the data society that we have,” he stated……See More
