Ovie Success Ossai, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, has stated that the 2027 presidential election will not mirror the 2023 polls, warning former Peter Obi that his previous momentum will not carry over.
In a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Ossai directly challenged Obi’s future political prospects, arguing that the opposition leader may no longer benefit from the protest votes or the ethnic and religious sentiments among Igbo and Christian voters that previously fueled his strong performance in the last presidential election.
Ossai also noted that this is the wrong time for Obi, stressing that he does not see him winning the 2027 presidency.
He wrote, “Dear Peter Obi, this is not 2023. 2027 will not play out like 2023. This time, you may not benefit from the same protest votes or sentiments from Igbos or Christians voters. This is a wrong time for you. I don’t see you winning the 2027 election.”
This comment comes amid ongoing reflections on Obi’s unprecedented disruption of Nigeria’s traditional two party system during the 2023 election.
In that cycle, Obi secured over 6.1 million votes nationally, finishing third behind the People’s Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress.
His performance was particularly dominant in the South-East geopolitical zone, where he garnered an overwhelming majority of the ballots cast.
Obi secured 584,621 votes in Anambra State, 428,640 votes in Enugu State, and 352,904 votes in Imo State, clearing over ninety percent of the total votes in multiple areas driven by massive youth mobilization and intense regional backing.
While his supporters view that historic turnout as a solid foundation for the future, critics like Ossai suggest that the unique socio-political sentiments of 2023 are rapidly fading, setting up a much tougher electoral atmosphere for Obi in 2027…….See More
