US President Donald Trump has said the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is “on life support” after rejecting Tehran’s latest response to a proposed peace framework, which he described as “garbage” and “totally unacceptable.”
Speaking during an impromptu appearance at the White House, Trump said he did not even finish reading Iran’s reply because it failed to address Washington’s central demand that Iran abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons.
In a video shared by Al Jazeera English, Trump said, “After reading that piece of garbage they sent us, I didn’t even finish reading it. I said, ‘I’m not going to waste my time reading it.’”
His comments come at a time of heightened tension between Washington and Tehran, as efforts to sustain the fragile ceasefire continue to face major obstacles. The United States has consistently maintained that any lasting agreement must include strict assurances that Iran will not pursue nuclear weapons development.
Iran, on the other hand, has pushed back against what it considers excessive demands, arguing that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and should not be subject to conditions it sees as restrictive or unfair.
