Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Murphy Ray has opened up about how he survives periods with no movie roles by turning to social media for income.
Speaking on Talk to B podcast, the actor explained that acting jobs are not always steady.
There are days when no film calls come in at all. Instead of waiting around, he goes online to make money in a different way.
Ray now streams live on TikTok regularly. During these live sessions, fans send him virtual gifts like flowers, roses, and other items.
Those gifts turn into real cash. This has become a reliable backup plan for the actor.
He added that on some lucky days, the money from TikTok is even more than what he would get paid for a movie role.
His words: “There are some days I don’t get called for movie jobs at all. On those days, thanks to social media, I just go on TikTok live and start streaming. That’s another way I make money. People send me flowers, roses, and all kinds of gifts, and those gifts turn into cash. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, I make even more in one day than what I’m supposed to get from acting.”
