A report from Anadolu Agency on Monday, April 20, 2026, states that Iran has confirmed the seizure of an Iranian ship by United States forces while it was in nearby waters, indicating that it will take action “soon” in response to what it labels a notable violation of a ceasefire recently established.
As per the semi-official Fars News Agency from Iran, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters reported that US forces targeted the ship, disrupted its navigation equipment, and boarded it during this event. Iranian officials have described this act as a breach of the current ceasefire agreement between both sides.
Military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari reported that US troops fired upon the ship prior to boarding it. He accused the US of what he termed “maritime piracy,” claiming the ship was attacked after its systems were disabled.
“The aggressive United States attacked one of Iran’s ships after disrupting its navigation system, thus violating the ceasefire and engaging in maritime piracy,” Zolfaghari said in statements reported by Iranian media. He also mentioned that US soldiers boarded the ship after deploying what he referred to as “a group of terrorist marines.”
Zolfaghari cautioned that Iran’s military would respond firmly, asserting that retaliation would occur soon. “We caution that Iran’s armed forces will soon react to this armed act of piracy committed by the US military,” he stated.
This event comes after comments from Donald Trump, who confirmed that US forces had intercepted a cargo ship flying the Iranian flag. On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump noted that the vessel, called the Touska, attempted to violate what he described as a US-enforced naval blockade.
“Today, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship named TOUSKA… tried to breach our naval blockade, and it did not end well for them,” Trump wrote. He further mentioned that the ship ignored several warnings to stop, which led US naval forces to intervene.
