Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, spokesperson for the G-60 federal lawmakers in the House of Representatives, asserted that no legitimate Adhoc Congress of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took place in Rivers State over the weekend. Instead, supporters of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike attempted to disguise a private meeting as a party congress.
Ugochinyere emphasized that a State High Court in Port Harcourt, led by Justice Charles Wali, had issued an interim order halting PDP congresses in the state. This followed a similar ruling by Justice Sobere Biambo in response to a suit filed by 11 aggrieved PDP members. Despite these court orders, certain PDP members associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly tried to pass off their gathering as a PDP congress.
Criticizing this defiance, Ugochinyere stated that Wike needed to accept that he cannot pursue a ‘third term’ in state governance through any means. He described the unauthorized meeting as an act of desperation by politically idle individuals seeking power.
Ugochinyere called on Rivers State residents to ignore these actions and continue their daily routines. He assured them that Governor Siminalayi Fubara was unbothered by these events and focused on his duties. He dismissed the attempted congress as futile, labeling those involved as political opportunists trying to merge PDP and APC for personal gain. “PDP is not yet functioning in Rivers State,” Ugochinyere remarked, urging citizens to leave the “political hallucinating men” to their own devices while the governor remains dedicated to his responsibilities.
According to LEADERSHIP News reports, Ugochinyere said, “PDP is not yet working in Rivers State, what we have are All Progressives Congress members and invaders who want to form PDPAPC in their desperate quest to hold two parties in one hand in their blind quest to get the pipe to start sucking state treasure. The governor is not perturbed and not even interested and going about his activities.”….Seē _ Morē
