According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Tuesday, May 05, 2026, France has expressed renewed concern over the security situation in Lebanon, reaffirming its support for the ongoing ceasefire framework and the protection of Lebanese sovereignty following high-level diplomatic discussions with the United States.
According to a statement from the French Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot conveyed France’s position during a telephone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on May 3.
“The Minister voiced France’s deep concern about the situation in Lebanon and reaffirmed France’s commitment to observance of the ceasefire and the safeguarding of Lebanese sovereignty,” the ministry said.

He emphasized that these steps are essential to achieving long-term peace and security for both nations, amid continuing tensions along the border.
The discussions between the two officials also addressed broader international crises, including ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as wider geopolitical instability.
On Iran, Barrot reiterated France’s position that a diplomatic resolution remains the preferred path to ensure Tehran does not acquire nuclear weapons. The French ministry added that Paris may participate in maritime security initiatives under a Franco-British framework, stressing the importance of close international coordination to support the resumption and protection of commercial shipping routes in the region.
