According to a report from Punch, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, the National Publicity Secretary of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, criticised the premature attribution of blame to IPOB for the recent killing of soldiers in Abia State. He urged the authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation before assigning responsibility.
Ogbonnia stressed that assuming IPOB’s involvement without evidence overlooks the presence of various criminal groups operating in Nigeria, any of which could have perpetrated the attack.
He underscored the need for an impartial and thorough inquiry, cautioning that rushing to conclusions and retaliating against IPOB could heighten ethnic and regional tensions.
He made these remarks in response to reports of the military’s intention to intensify pressure on IPOB members following the soldiers’ killings in Abia State.
He emphasised, “It is essential to investigate this heinous act thoroughly rather than hastily blaming IPOB. It’s premature to single out IPOB as the sole perpetrator when other criminal elements, such as bandits or herdsmen, are active in Nigeria.
