According to Sahara Reporters, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the alleged killing of a suspect, Andrew Ochekwo, alleged to have kidnapped two ladies who he invited over to his residents for a hookup engagement.
A few days ago, the media widely reported the disappearance of the two ladies, a Nigerian, Celine Ndudim and her Ghanaian friend, Afiba Abigail Tandor, after they had visited Ochekwo, upon his invitation, to pleasure him in exchange for money.
Celine’s family sources said that the two ladies travelled from Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital to Aba in Abia State for the engagement on April 27.
However, not long after they arrived at the suspected kidnapper’s residence, Celine sent a distress message to a family member disclosing that they had been kidnapped.
She followed the message up with a live Google Location, indicating where they were being held, to family members who quickly alerted her elder sister, Theresa Ndudim, who promptly reported the matter to the police.
But after the Aba Police Division failed to act decisively on the case, it was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the state command in Umuahia, the state capital, following a petition to the IGP.
The police unit eventually tracked and arrested Ochekwo, the prime suspect. However, a few days after his arrest, the suspect was reportedly shot dead by the police. The police claimed their operatives shot him when attempted to escape while being transported from Abia to Abuja on the orders of the IGP.
But Celine’s family sources suspect foul play in the purported killing of the suspect. The point accusing fingers at the Aba anti-kidnapping commander, Amanchukwu Victor.
In his reaction to the Abia police authorities’ statement on the suspect’s death on Monday, IGP Egbetokun directed the Monitoring Unit to carry out a thorough and high-powered investigation into the suspected murder of Ochekwo.
The statement on the IGP’s directive read in part:
“This directive comes amid the numerous allegations, arguments, and counterarguments surrounding the case, which also involves the disappearance of two ladies, Celine and Afiba, after their trip to visit the said Andrew in Aba, Abia State, for which he was alleged to be responsible.
“In light of the public interest and the gravity of the allegations, the IGP has deemed it necessary to institute a meticulous investigation into the roles played by the team which carried out the initial investigation in Abia State, and the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (IGP-IRT), to unravel the veritable facts of the matter. The Monitoring Unit has been given a two-week timeframe to complete its investigation and present a comprehensive report.”..…….See More
