The planned 300% wage increase for judicial personnel in Nigeria has been discussed by renowned lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome. Ozekhome compared the salaries of judges in Nigeria to those in other nations in a video interview with Channels TV.
In his remarks, he brought up the fact that American judges get around 106 million naira (about $73,000) every year. Judgement in Canada costs over 110 million naira per year (or 80,000 Canadian dollars), whereas in Germany it costs over 140 million naira (or 79,000 Euros) each year.
Senator Shehu Sani was suspended in 2018 after making a statement that Ozekhome described as indicating that each senator got 13.8 million naira monthly. According to Ozekhome, the planned 3000% pay rise for Nigerian judicial personnel is inadequate in light of the country’s increasing inflation rate.
