Former Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has taken to social media to disclose that the cost of subsiding fuel in 2024 may skyrocket to 5.4 trillion Naira as compared to the 3.6 trillion Naira that was consumed on such subsidy last year.
Atiku Abubakar who made such statement through his official X account few minutes ago, stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his inauguration announced the abolishment of the subsidy on fuel, adding that ever since such announcement was made, it has been a bragging right of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and officials of his administration.
Speaking further, the former Vice President revealed that he urged the federal government to come clean on the actual position of the subsidy policy, adding that what would they say of a situation where the subsidy is still being paid under the cover without the knowledge of Nigerians.
Atiku Abubakar further stated that he was shocked to learn that the “government is still supporting downstream consumption,” adding that;
“Now we know that expenditure on fuel subsidy may reach N5.4 trillion in 2024, compared to the N3.6 trillion spent in 2023, the same year that Tinubu claimed to have abolished fuel subsidy.”
