According to The Nation, President Tinubu has taken a significant step by approving a minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers and committing to reviewing the national minimum wage law every three years.
The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are presently meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where this decision was announced.
In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, it was highlighted that Tinubu also pledged to explore means to support the private sector and sub-national entities in implementing the minimum wage.
The announcement was made during a meeting with the leaders of TUC and NLC, marking the second consecutive week of discussions between the parties.
President Tinubu’s commitment to meeting the demands of university unions, specifically regarding the payment of four months’ outstanding salaries, was also acknowledged during the meeting.
The Labour leaders commended Tinubu for his supportive stance and expressed gratitude for his efforts, referring to them as a “fatherly gesture.”….Seē _ Morē
