Governor Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, has expressed concern over a planned nationwide protest, labeling it a ploy by enemies of progress to destabilize the government of President Bola Tinubu. According to Uzodimma, the administration is still in its first year and has been working tirelessly to address the country’s problems.
Speaking at an APC rally in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, Uzodimma urged citizens to remain calm and not fall prey to the protest’s divisive rhetoric. He argued that the South East region, which has been a bastion of national development in various sectors, has more to gain from working with the current government rather than joining the protest.
According to the sun Nigeria, the governor acknowledged that there are challenges facing the country, but emphasized that President Tinubu is committed to addressing them. He pointed out that the administration has already taken steps to improve people’s lives, including increasing infrastructure development and food security.
Uzodimma’s comments come as a response to the planned “10 Days of Rage” protest, which is scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10, 2024. The protest aims to address multiple grievances against the government, including high fuel prices, increased electricity tariffs, and corruption.
The governor urged citizens not to be swayed by the protest’s slogans, which he described as divisive and aimed at creating chaos. Instead, he encouraged them to work with their leaders and appreciate the progress being made by the current administration.
“We must not allow ourselves to be misled by those who want to create chaos and destabilize our country,” Uzodimma said. “We must work together as a people and appreciate the efforts of our leaders. The South East has always been a major contributor to national development, and we must continue to work together towards a brighter future.”
Uzodimma’s remarks have sparked controversy, with many criticizing his attempt to discourage peaceful protest and dissent. However, his supporters have hailed his call for unity and cooperation with the government.
Governor Uzodimma’s warning against the planned protest has set off a heated debate about the role of peaceful protest in Nigerian politics. While some see it as a legitimate means of expressing dissent and holding leaders accountable, others view it as a threat to national stability. As Nigeria navigates its current challenges, one thing is clear: effective governance and meaningful dialogue are essential for building a better future for all Nigerians….Seē _ Morē
