Base on PREMIUM TIMES News, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, the Minority Leader of the Nigerian Senate, has met with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Abaribe’s meeting with Kanu took place on Tuesday at the DSS headquarters in Abuja, where Kanu is currently being held.
The Senator’s visit to Kanu comes after he was appointed by a Federal High Court in Abuja to stand as a surety for the detained IPOB leader in 2017. Abaribe had been arrested and held for three days by the Department of State Services (DSS) for failing to produce Kanu in court after his bail was granted.
During the meeting, Abaribe was accompanied by Kanu’s lawyers and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN). They discussed the ongoing legal battle to secure Kanu’s release and the progress made so far.
Speaking after the meeting, Abaribe stated that they had a fruitful discussion and are working towards finding a solution to the prolonged detention of the IPOB leader. He also expressed hope that Kanu will be released soon.
On his part, AGF Malami stated that the meeting was a productive one and they are committed to ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law.
The continued detention of Kanu has been a contentious issue, with many calling for his release and for the charges against him to be dropped. Pro-Biafra groups and human rights activists have accused the Nigerian government of infringing on Kanu’s fundamental human rights.
The next court hearing in Kanu’s case is scheduled for July 26, and it is expected that Abaribe and his legal team will continue to work towards securing the release of the IPOB leader.
The meeting between Abaribe and Kanu is seen as a significant step towards finding a resolution to the issue, and many are hopeful that this will lead to a positive outcome. Nigerians and the international community will be closely watching the developments surrounding Kanu’s case, as it carries immense political implications for the country.
As the legal battle continues, many are urging for a peaceful and just resolution to be reached, in the interest of peace and unity in the country. The fate of Nnamdi Kanu remains uncertain, but the efforts being made by Abaribe and others are a glimmer of hope for his release..…….See More
