In a powerful address, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, urged the Nigerian Army to remain vigilant against the insidious threat of tribalism, warning that its grip could tear the institution and the nation asunder. The call came during the commissioning of the newly constructed Nigerian Army Armoured Corps headquarters complex and reunion of retired senior armoured officers in Bauchi.
The Sultan’s words were laced with a sense of urgency as he cautioned against the creeping menace of divisive thinking that threatens to fragment the army and the country. “In this noble institution, we must not allow petty squabbles over ethnic or religious differences to take root,” he warned. “We must remember that we are one Nigeria, and our strength lies in our unity.”
According to daily trust, the Sultan also sounded a note of caution against vilifying military personnel who are risking their lives to restore peace across the country. “Nigerians need to show compassion and understanding towards our brave soldiers who are working tirelessly to keep us safe,” he emphasized. “Without security, we cannot live our lives freely, whether it’s going to work, worship or simply enjoying our daily routines.”
