According to a report by Sahara Reporters, the son of Chief MKO Abiola, Abdulmumuni Abiola, has disclosed that his elder brother, Kola Abiola, was in a romantic relationship with Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida’s daughter while their father languished in prison.
The late Abiola died in confinement after the former military tyrant, Babangida, revoked his election on June 12, 1993, and imprisoned him in 1994 after he went on to assume the presidency.
Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, wife of Abiola and mother of Abdulmumuni was killed by state agents, directly linked to the administration of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, in June 1996.
She was assassinated while on a mission to actualize the June 12, 1993 presidential election that saw her husband emerge victorious.
During a chat on the Mic On podcast, moderated by Channels TV’s anchor, Seun Okinbaloye, Abdulmumuni talked about his elder brother’s activities when Abiola was in jail.
When asked if he blames his elder brother for how things turned out, and if the legacy of their family would have been better off than it is now, Abdulmumuni said, “I definitely do because he was in a better position, especially after the whole crisis.
“He could have been a strong voice for a true democracy but he chose not to. Apparently when my father was still in jail, he was having a relationship with Babangida’s daughter.”
Abdulmumuni further stated that it is saddening that the late Abiola cannot witness what his first son turned out to be.
He added that he is also sad about the matter and expressed a believe that Nigerians are not happy either.
Abdulmumuni went on to talk about the poor reception his elder brother faced when he tried to run for president, saying, “How could he be a president? He cannot manage Abiola’s empire, does he want to manage Nigeria? He doesn’t deserve a high position.”.…….See More
