Professor Banji Akintoye, the leader of the Yoruba self-determination movement, Ilana Omo Oodua, recounted the injustices of the past, highlighting how the Yoruba people were targeted and oppressed in 1962 without provocation. The Nigerian leadership at the time declared a state of emergency in the southwestern region, imprisoning their leader and stifling their autonomy.
