I Was Almost Shedding Tears, Oghenemine Was Crying, Pleading For His Life -Lawyer Reacts To Video

A fatal shooting in Efurum, Delta State, involving a young man identified as Mene Ogidi, has sparked widespread concern, following decisive action by the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force. The development has drawn reactions from legal experts, including Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kunle Edun, who spoke on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Reflecting on the incident, Edun stated, “Sunday, the 26th of April, 2026, was a sad day for Nigerians. It was a sad day for Deltans, and particularly the residents of Warri and Efurum, and also the family of Mene Ogidi.”

He recounted how he became aware of the situation, saying, “As a matter of fact, it was a morning that I got to know about what actually happened. The Attorney General of Ogun state, my brother, Mr. Oluwashina, called me. He said, you are in Warri. This is what is on the social media. I said, I’ve already gone to social media for some hours now. OK, let me just check. And he forwarded that video.”

Describing his reaction, Edun said, “I was traumatized. I saw a young man, 28 years old, Oghenemine, from a very, very humble background. Because I got to know the family, living in one of these areas in Warri. I was almost shedding tears.”

He further detailed the victim’s final moments as seen in the footage, stating, “Oghenemine was crying. Well, he was pleading for his life. That I’m innocent.”

Edun noted that conflicting accounts had emerged regarding the circumstances leading to the shooting. “This package that I was sent, because there are not two versions. The police has its own version, that it went to deliver the package, which contained, according to the police, a barretted pistol. Now, the other version is that Oghenemine went there to pick up the passage, the parcel,” he said.

He continued, “And that young man was crying, shedding tears, pleading for his life. I know the person that sent me. I can take you to Sapele show you the person.”

Edun also raised concerns about the appearance of the officer involved, stating, “And this man, he wasn’t even dressed as a policeman. If I see such a man on the road, I will not stop for him, because I will think he’s a criminal. He was wearing, in fact, he was dressed in tattered, in tattered clothes.”

He further alleged details of the shooting, saying, “If somebody handed the magazine to him, cocked the gun, right in the presence of police officers there, at the office, I know the area commander, Ali Shaba, he’s my very good friend, cocked the gun and shot this man in broad daylight. And he was hailed by his fellow police officers.”…….See More
