According to a report by The PUNCH, former Akwa Ibom INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Mike Igini has demanded that ex-Edo APC Chairman Colonel David Imuse (retd.) substantiate the “damaging allegations” he made against Igini during the 2020 gubernatorial election.
Igini, who dragged Imuse to the Edo State High Court for libel in 2020, expressed frustration at the glacial pace of the proceedings, which have now stretched into 2024.
“This is 2024, a case that was instituted in 2020 – this is where we are,” Igini lamented on Monday.
According to Igini, Imuse has employed various “tricks” and “antics” to delay the case, including failing to file a response for nearly two years.
When Imuse did eventually submit his defense, Igini accused him of “hiding it” from the plaintiff’s lawyers.
The crux of the matter revolves around the “very frivolous, malicious allegations” that Imuse made against Igini, which the former INEC official says have damaged his reputation and are now “all over the internet.”
“The allegations he made are all over the internet, which has become a common encyclopedia, even for pupils, and that information is readily there,” Igini said.
”That is why I have shown this unwavering determination that he must come to this court to prove those damaging allegations, which he has failed to do.”….Seē _ Morē
