Abdul Mumuni Abiola, one of the sons of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, late M. K. O. Abiola, has, during an interview on Mic On Podcast, said that Nigeria may still be suffering from the tragic decision of retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, to annul the June 12 election; as he maintained that it is good to mark June 12 every year to reflect on where Nigeria ought to have been.
Abdul Mumuni Abiola had said, “It’s just a time where the Nation can actually reflect on where we are, and where we need to be. I think it’s important that we have these moments in a country’s history where we can actually take a glance backwards, not necessarily to focus on it, but just to recollect the situation at hand, and then try to forge forward. So for me, it’s humbling, because this is a day that – and this is a day that my father – and that represents something that is even beyond my father, I consider the day like the birth of a Nation that was truncated. So there was so much emotions, so many things that happened after the annulment that I think might have harmed the Nigerian psyche, and we’re still suffering from that tragic decision by the former General Babangida.”..……See More
