President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Sunday that China’s support for Russia is extending the war in Ukraine. Speaking at a defense chiefs’ meeting in Singapore, Zelensky called on Asia-Pacific nations to participate in an upcoming peace summit, accusing Russia of trying to derail it, according to CNN.
Zelensky’s surprise appearance in Singapore comes ahead of an international peace conference on Ukraine, scheduled for June 15-16 in Switzerland. Addressing the media, he expressed concerns over China’s backing of Russia.
“With China’s support to Russia, the war will last longer. That is bad for the whole world, and the policy of China – who declares that it supports territorial integrity and sovereignty and declares it officially. For them it is not good,” Zelensky said.
China, while claiming neutrality in the conflict and promoting peace, has become a crucial economic ally for Russia, strengthening their strategic and diplomatic ties since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The US has accused China of providing dual-use goods to Russia, bolstering its defense industry. Beijing denies these claims, asserting it has not supplied weapons to either side and maintains strict export controls on dual-use items.
Zelensky highlighted China’s involvement in supplying components for Russian weaponry, indicating the extent of their support. He also warned that Russia, with China’s assistance, is pressuring countries not to attend the forthcoming peace summit, according to reports from CNN.
“Russia is trying to disrupt the peace summit and that is true … (Russia) is now traveling around many countries in the world threatening them with the blockade of the agricultural goods, of the food products, of chemical products … it is simply pushing the other countries of the world so that they’re not present on the summit,” Zelensky said after his address at the defense conference..……..See More
