Criticizing Northern governors for putting religious pilgrimages ahead of the critical needs of hungry children, Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, has been harsh.
In an interview with Arise TV, Yusuf vented his frustration at the governors, who are currently in Saudi Arabia rather than dealing with the critical concerns at home, despite the terrible hunger situation. Rather of grains, Yusuf emphasised the critical need of high-protein milk for malnourished youngsters, noting that the country’s silos are empty.
He urged the President and the National Security Adviser to act quickly and decisively, framing the crisis as a threat to national security. He doubted the governors’ capacity to handle the situation competently and questioned their priorities.
“The two cups of rice that the governors provide won’t be enough, so Mr. President, you must remain vigilant; this concerns matters of national security,” he stated. It is imperative that the NSA and all of your security detail be vigilant to prevent a repeat of the events in Sudan or Yamen. We have no faith in the governors; all of them have disappeared to Saudi Arabia, leaving us to wonder what they’re doing with the children in their care.
