Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has voiced his skepticism regarding the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision to grant autonomy to local governments in Nigeria.
Sowore argues that the judgment will be futile if state governors retain control over state electoral bodies. He believes that as long as governors manipulate local government elections to install their preferred candidates, the Supreme Court’s ruling will have no real effect.
Expressing his views on X, Sowore further stated: “The Supreme Court ruling will remain ineffective as long as Nigerian state governors control the state electoral machinery, rig local government elections, and install their minions in the LGAs. And anytime @officialABAT is seen near control of funds, it’s best to avoid.”
This comes in light of the Supreme Court’s recent decision to prohibit state governors from accessing funds allocated to local governments, deeming such control unconstitutional….Seë _ Morë
