Shehu Sani, a former senator from the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has criticized the recent trips to Daura, Katsina State, by a number of well-known northern politicians to see former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sani claims that these trips are part of a covert plot to topple President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government and clear the path for their own political aspirations in the 2027 presidential contest.
Punch reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 2023, Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, and a former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, were among the guests.
There has been much conjecture over the real objectives of these meetings because their goals and decisions have been kept secret.
Sani, a strong supporter of accountability and openness, thinks that these politicians are trying to resurrect Buhari’s popularity in order to achieve their own goals. But he cautioned that because their scheme is unsound and has no true purpose or substance, it will eventually fall flat.
He said, “What is most disappointing is that these politicians are trying to exploit Buhari’s legacy and influence for their own gain. They have nothing valuable to offer the nation, and their actions will only serve to divide us further.”
“The South never did this to Buhari when he was in power. If we allow this to happen now, it will only lead to chaos and instability in our democracy.”
“It is every citizen’s right to express opposition to the government through peaceful means. However, whipping up regional sentiments for political gain is a dangerous game that can only lead to unrest and violence.”..…….See More
