In response to the tragic killing of three soldiers in Aba, Abia State, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, visited the 144 Infantry Battalion Headquarters in Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area. He condemned the senseless act of violence perpetrated by unidentified gunmen and stated that there could be no justification for the killing of military personnel on duty, as reported by Vanguard.
Accompanied by fellow House members and representatives from the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P), Kalu expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
Expressing concern over potential retaliation by aggrieved military personnel. He stated that allowing the military to become angered in the state would endanger everyone’s safety, stating that if they were to retaliate, no one would be safe in Abia State. He urged for the continued use of non-kinetic approaches, expressing concern that resorting to violence could escalate the situation. Additionally, he pleaded with the military to take necessary steps to locate the perpetrators while reassuring them of their capabilities in addressing the issue.
In his words: “If you allow the military to be angry in this state, none of us will be safe. If they get angry and say they want to retaliate, we will not be safe in this Abia state. And that is why we are still begging that that non kinetic approach is still what will work.
“Let us not be provoked by those we kept our gun to save their lives. They are now picking up the gun to shoot us. They have shot Nigeria. They shot the parliament when they shot their husbands. They shot the deputy speaker when they shot their husband. They shot the rest of us.
“We want to urge the military, to please continue using your non kinetic means. Do not because of this provocation, go on rampage. But if there is any step to be taken to find those people, please do it. Do all you can because I know you can.”..…….See More
