In an interview with The Punch, Nurudeen Olaitan Salami, recounts the sad experience of being abducted by a deadly gang of herdsmen while himself and three others were traveling from Ilogbo, Ogun State, to attend a burial in Saki, Oyo State, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. It was reported that out of the four men who embarked on the journey, only two returned home alive, with Salami being one of them.
Talking during the interview, the victim said that the party was an all-night final burial party, for the mother of the Ilupeju Igbusi Ilogbo Community Development Association chairman, as himself and three others, Omogbolahan Olakunle, Rafiu Oriade Jolaiya, and Ernest, took time off work to honour their chairman at the event, but unfortunately, they were kidnapped at the Maya Axis of the state.
Narrating how he was able to survive, he said that it was a narrow escape from death brought about by the almighty God, who put it in the heart of the kidnappers to set him free without collecting any ransom from him.
Explaining, he said, “At about 7 pm on a Sunday, the leader of the gang told us that he would release us because he was expecting payment of ransom from a family whose three members were kidnapped. He however threatened to kill us if the operatives of Amotekun Corps attacked them in the forest.”
He said suddenly, they heard sounds of gunshots from a distance, and the shots were fired by a combined team of police officers and some soldiers, who were coming to rescue them, but the bandits also returned fire too to scare the law enforcement team away.
He added, “After the gunshots ceased, the leader of the gang returned to where we were kept in the forest and shot eight of their captives dead, including a 13-year-old boy. My friends, Omogbolahan Olakunle and Oriade Jolaiya, were also among the eight captives killed by the leader of the herdsmen.”..……See More
