“The New Illegal Members Are 88, 75, 90 Of Age, They Should Allow Us Youths To Step In And Lead -Bala

According to a report by Leadership News on Friday, April 10, 2026, Nafiu Bala, who claims to be the national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has announced that the party will restrict its 2027 electoral tickets to aspirants who are 55 years old and below.

He made this known during an interview with BBC Hausa Service, where he explained that the decision is aimed at encouraging greater youth participation in politics and creating space for younger members to take on leadership responsibilities within the party.

According to him, the proposed guideline is part of a broader effort to reform the party’s internal structure and reshape how candidates are selected ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stressed that prioritizing younger aspirants would help reposition the party and strengthen its future electoral chances.

Bala added that placing an age limit on candidates would help reduce the dominance of older politicians in elective positions while giving younger Nigerians the opportunity to gain experience in governance and political leadership across different levels.

He further argued that the policy aligns with a wider call for youth inclusion in Nigerian politics, noting that leadership should better reflect the country’s youthful population. In his view, political representation should be more balanced to ensure that young people play a stronger role in decision-making processes.

He also criticized what he described as the increasing presence of elderly individuals in recent party membership trends, saying such developments contradict the goal of empowering younger generations. He maintained that this situation should be corrected to allow more youth participation in leadership roles.
