Tinubu Told Akpabio To Represent Him In Lagos; Can You Imagine That Under OBJ And Okadigbo? -Aziken

During an interview on AIT, Emmanuel Aziken, a political analyst, reacted to a recent development involving the president and senate president, arguing that it reflects a growing imbalance in Nigeria’s democratic structure. He stated that the incident has raised fresh concerns about the independence of the legislative arm under the current administration.

He argued that the decision for the Senate president to represent the president at an official function in Lagos, despite having prior legislative commitments abroad, underscores what he described as an unusual level of compliance between the two arms of government. He added that such an occurrence would have been unthinkable in earlier democratic eras when institutional boundaries were more firmly respected.

According to him, “The other day, the president went to Lagos; for one reason or the other, he couldn’t go about commissioning whatever projects. He had to call the senate president, who was supposed to go abroad for a legislative duty, to come and represent him. That couldn’t have happened under Chuba Okadigbo. Could you imagine that Obasanjo was supposed to go somewhere and he couldn’t go, then summon Senator Chuba Okadigbo to go and represent him?
