According to the report from the Vanguard, The Deputy Director-General, Media and Publicity of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council, Olu Martins, has strongly criticized a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for his recent comments regarding Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
During a televised morning program, Ize-Iyamu alleged that Governor Obaseki was unwilling to campaign alongside Ighodalo due to the latter’s perceived shortcomings. He suggested that Obaseki’s support for Ighodalo would be detrimental to the PDP candidate’s campaign.
Responding to these statements, Martins released a statement yesterday questioning the coherence of Ize-Iyamu and the APC’s stance. He pointed out the inconsistency in their narrative, highlighting that they had previously labeled Ighodalo as Obaseki’s protege.
Martins emphasized that Ighodalo, as a competent candidate, does not require external endorsements to communicate his vision for the state. He praised Governor Obaseki’s track record and refuted claims of poor performance, asserting that the APC’s allegations were a diversionary tactic to deflect attention from their own candidate’s inadequacies.
He lauded Governor Obaseki’s governance style, describing him as a visionary leader who has significantly improved the lives of Edo residents since assuming office. Martins dismissed the APC’s criticisms as baseless and urged Ize-Iyamu to remember the state’s tumultuous past under previous administrations.
In a parting shot, Martins reminded Ize-Iyamu of the state’s history of corruption and instability, suggesting that the APC’s leadership had squandered opportunities for progress. He concluded by affirming Governor Obaseki’s commitment to sustainable development and public welfare, contrasting it with what he viewed as the APC’s outdated approach to governance.
The verbal clash between the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council and the APC underscores the intense rivalry characterizing Edo State’s political landscape in the run-up to the upcoming elections.…….See More
