Prominent PDP member Dele Momodu recently expressed his worries on social media about a direction given to newly sworn-in caretaker committee chairmen by Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara. Following the expiration of the terms of the previous local government chairman, Governor Fubara gave them instructions to function remotely. This was after the Nigerian Police in Rivers State had denied them access to council secretariats.
Following this instruction, Momodu posted something on his official Instagram account with the caption “A Matter Of Time.” After serving as Rivers State’s governor without opposition for eight years, he attacked Governor Fubara’s strategy, criticising what he saw as undemocratic practices where a single person attempts to maintain control over the state’s governance. In the face of the pressing issues the state was experiencing, Momodu further bemoaned the effect of such oppressive leadership on the people, whom he characterised as being “captured as slaves” by their leaders.
The previous contender for president highlighted how history has shown time and time again that such totalitarian behaviour is unsustainable and that it is only a matter of time until such folly ends. Amid ongoing political tensions and administrative issues, Momodu’s remarks highlighted broader worries within the PDP about governance and democratic ideals in Rivers State.
