In a recent statement, Kenneth Okonkwo, a Nollywood actor turned politician, has criticized the Labour Party’s last National Convention under Julius Abure’s leadership, as reported by Sahara Reporters.
Okonkwo described the event as “criminal and corrupt.”
In a recent viral video, Okonkwo did not rule out the possibility of joining another party.
“I don’t rule out going back to anything because change is constant. My own Labour Party is not impressing me. So what are you talking, assuming they continue in this trajectory where they cannot even hold acceptable national convention then you will tell me I will be there?” he said.
He also criticized the Labour Party’s inability to conduct “an acceptable national convention.”
In May 2024, Sahara Reporters noted that Okonkwo had suspended his relationship with the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party.
Okonkwo announced this decision in a post on his X account, citing corruption and incompetence as reasons.
Kenneth Okonkwo was previously a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before leaving in 2022 to join the Labour Party.
He became a spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council and supported Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
