A group of armed bandits carried out a deadly attack on the Gugur community in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue state on Tuesday night, killing six people. According to sources, the bandits arrived on motorcycles between 9 PM and 10 PM and launched the assault on the village. The local lawmaker representing the constituency and the LGA chairperson both confirmed the incident, stating that this was a revenge attack.
Apparently, the villagers had previously killed two of the bandits back in April, which prompted this retaliatory strike. While the authorities stated that normalcy had been restored to the area, the police spokesperson claimed she was not yet aware of the report. This violent incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the region, where armed groups have carried out similar attacks, leading to loss of life and instability. Local leaders are working to address the situation and restore a sense of safety and security for the residents.
According to Punch News, the lawmaker representing the constituency in the state assembly, Jonathan Agbidye, said, “Those people in that particular community were against the hoodlums; luck ran out on them and they got hold of two of them in April and killed them.
“So the incident that happened yesterday (Tuesday night) is just a revenge mission. But the place is calm now. We went there with the police this morning .”..………See More
