In a candid interview on Arise TV, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Buba Galadima decried the use of traditional institutions, specifically the position of Emir, as a tool for political power play and manipulation.
He highlighted the absurdity of attempts to compromise on matters relating to the Emirate, stating that past events, including the installation of five Emirs, have proven futile in countering the influence of the elected government.
He insisted that the Emirate should be left out of political wrangling and protected from partisan interference, as it is an integral part of Kano’s history and heritage, deserving of respect and autonomy.
He said, “I have never seen in the world where there is a compromise in the lefa issue. So, the compromise is that every governor either qualified or not should leave Kano alone. Everybody should be left on his seat. Now, they came again through the other side on the issue of Emir. They said we have the governor, they insisted they must have Emir. What has Emir got to do with politics. Afterall, there were five Emirs, we won the election, if you install another one, how could he defeat us. That is not an issue.”.…….See More
