Deji Adeyanju, a fierce human rights lawyer, has slammed the Department of State Services (DSS) for its attempts to silence Nigerians who dare to speak out against the country’s crippling economic crisis. The DSS had issued a threatening statement aimed at intimidating citizens who plan to exercise their constitutional right to protest on June 12.
According to Sahara Reporters, Adeyanju refused to back down, declaring that the DSS’s stance is a brazen attack on democratic values. He vowed to resist this assault on human rights through every legal means possible. The lawyer emphasized that freedom of expression and assembly are sacred rights enshrined in the constitution, and no institution can usurp them.
Adeyanju also called out the government for its hypocrisy, pointing out that it rode to power on the back of protests and demonstrations but now seeks to suppress the same rights it once exploited. He urged the DSS to redirect its energy towards tackling the real threats to national security, such as bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers, rather than harassing peaceful protesters.
In a show of solidarity, Adeyanju rallied Nigerians to exercise their rights peacefully and responsibly, assuring them that security agencies have a duty to protect them. His message was clear: the government may try to silence voices, but the people will not be intimidated. The DSS’s attempt to stifle dissent only serves to embolden the resolve of Nigerians to stand up for their rights and demand a better future.……..See More
