During an interview on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme, legal practitioner Wori Wori discussed the implications of the recent court ruling concerning pro-Wike members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He insisted that these lawmakers can continue their legislative duties for Rivers State despite the current legal challenges, as the order by Justice C. N. Wali is subject to appeal.
Wori Wori explained that the court had ruled based on the evidence presented, affirming that Amaewhule and his colleagues remain members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He noted that this ruling, particularly the interlocutory order by Justice C. N. Wali, is currently being appealed, which leaves room for further legal scrutiny and decisions.
He highlighted that since the order was issued, the lawmakers have refrained from making laws for the governance of Rivers State. This pause in legislative activity was due to the legal uncertainties surrounding their status and the need to adhere to the court’s directive.
With the recent judgment clearing the lawmakers to continue their duties, Wori Wori emphasized that the legislative body can now proceed with its functions. He pointed out that the judgment effectively removes any legal hindrance that previously prevented the lawmakers from performing their roles.
Wori Wori reiterated that the ruling provides a clear path for Amaewhule and his colleagues to resume their legislative responsibilities. This development ensures that the Rivers State House of Assembly can continue its mandate to enact laws for the state’s governance and welfare. Despite the ongoing appeal process, the ruling allows these lawmakers to continue their work, thereby maintaining the legislative process crucial for the state’s governance.
Hear him: “The Court said look, based on the evidence before me, Amaewhule and Co. are still members of the PDP, particularly so…. I think it does, it does because after the interlocutory order by C. N. Wali, which is subject of an appeal, Amaewhule and Co., the Rivers State House of Assembly have not sat to make laws for the good governance of Rivers State. But with the Judgment of yesterday, the coast is clear for them to continue as always to make laws for the State.”………See More
