According to a report by Daily Sun on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has attributed the recent wave of violence across Nigeria to alleged covert foreign interference, dismissing claims that the attacks are driven by religious divisions.
Reacting to a series of deadly incidents, including the Palm Sunday attack in Plateau State and earlier bombings in Maiduguri, Gumi argued that the pattern of killings points to organised external involvement rather than internal sectarian conflict. He warned that some Nigerians may be collaborating with these forces, worsening the country’s security crisis.
“The pattern suggests a clandestine foreign intelligence operations. It has nothing to do with religion,” Gumi said.
