In a recent interview on Arise TV, Eugene Odo, the former speaker of the Enugu House of Assembly, offered his perspective on resolving the ongoing security issues in Nigeria’s southeast region. He advocated for a political solution centered on dialogue and engagement with key stakeholders.
According to Odo, the most effective approach to addressing the current unrest is to initiate a political dialogue aimed at the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He emphasized that such a move would significantly deescalate tensions and improve security conditions in the region.
Odo expressed confidence that if Nnamdi Kanu were released, the security problem in the southeast would be reduced by 70%. He argued that Kanu’s influence and leadership are pivotal in stabilizing the area, as many of the current issues stem from his detention and the subsequent actions of unauthorized elements.
He pointed out that despite Kanu not giving his consent, miscreants have hijacked the IPOB movement and distorted its original goals. These individuals, Odo explained, have twisted the movement into a negative phenomenon, causing more harm than good.
Odo specifically criticized Simon Ekpa, who claims to be in touch with Nnamdi Kanu. He dismissed Ekpa’s assertions, stating that everyone knows he is not in contact with Kanu. Odo characterized Ekpa and his followers as miscreants who have taken advantage of the situation to further their own agendas.
He said, “I can assure you that if Nnamdi Kanu is released today, the security problem in the southeast will be reduced to 70%. Even though they did not have his consent, they are miscreants who have taken over what he has advocated for and twisted it to a negative phenomenon.”………..See More
