In a recent post on Al Jazeera news, the longstanding tensions between the United States and Iran have reached a critical juncture, as discussions on a potential ceasefire intensify in Islamabad. Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, emphasized that military force has proven ineffective in compelling Iran to yield, declaring, “The military option has failed, Iranians cannot be brought to their knees.”
Parsi’s remarks come amid efforts to negotiate a 15-day dialogue in Islamabad, scheduled to begin April 10, aimed at reconciling a 15-point U.S. plan with a 10-point Iranian framework. The talks follow weeks of heightened confrontation that brought the region perilously close to open warfare. According to Parsi, the failure of military threats has shifted leverage to Iran, demonstrating that even extensive American firepower, including a naval presence 3,000 kilometers from Iranian shores, has not forced compliance.
