The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate arrest of the owner and the seizure of the plot of land where a multi-story hotel collapsed last Friday in Jikwoyi, Abuja.
According to a media post by Lere Olayinka on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, Wike conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the site and revealed that the building was constructed without approval from the FCT Department of Development Control.
The collapse followed repeated violations of “stop-work” notices issued by the authorities.
The Minister confirmed that no fatalities occurred, although some individuals sustained injuries and were hospitalized, stressing that the outcome could have been far worse.
He further announced that the FCT Administration would reclaim the land for public use and consult the local community to determine an appropriate project.
Wike emphasized strict adherence to building regulations to safeguard lives and property, warning that illegal constructions using substandard materials would lead to prosecution.
He directed relevant agencies to strengthen enforcement, including the demolition of unapproved structures, affirming that “where there is clear violation, the law must take its course.”……See More
