According to a report by The Times Of Israel on April 7, 2026, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir says Israel is approaching a decisive stage in its ongoing conflict with Iran, describing the situation as a “strategic crossroads” in the wider military campaign.
Zamir made the remarks during a security assessment in which he reviewed the progress of operations and outlined the military’s continued objectives. He emphasized that Israel has already recorded notable achievements since the beginning of the campaign and intends to maintain pressure on its adversaries.
“We are approaching a strategic crossroads in the joint campaign against Iran. So far, we have achieved significant accomplishments, also in relation to the objectives we set when launching the operation. We will continue to act with determination and deepen the blows to the regime,” he said.
He further stated that Israeli forces will sustain their efforts in order to weaken Iran’s capabilities and ensure long-term strategic gains. According to him, the next phase of the operation will involve intensified actions aimed at increasing pressure on the Iranian leadership.
Addressing the situation on the northern front, Zamir also spoke about the ongoing ground offensive against Hezbollah. He explained that Israeli forces are working to establish a forward defensive zone designed to prevent direct attacks on Israeli communities.
