I Asked My Dad Why He Was Nicknamed”Point Of Order” I Found Out Why When I Went To House Of Reps-Lam

Dapo Lam, the son of former Oyo State governor Lam Adesina, has stated that his father served as a member of the House of Representatives between 1979 and 1983, and during that period, he was widely called “Mr Point of Order”

In an interview on the State Affairs show with Edmund Obilo, Lam said he once asked his father why he was given that nickname. He said his father explained that while he was in the House of Reps, whenever the Speaker tried to move a matter forward, he would often notice issues and raise a “point of order” to challenge it.

Lam said his father told him that this was why other lawmakers in the House decided to nickname him “Mr Point of Order.”

In Lam’s words: “I asked him one day, why were you nicknamed ‘Mr Point Of Order?’ I eventually found out what it meant to be Mr Point Of Order when I went to the House of Reps. He said at every point in time when the Speaker was to raise something or to push further, he would always find fault and then he would raise the point of order and everybody would laugh and say Mr Point Of Order has come again”
