Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has recently addressed the growing concerns of the Igbo people regarding the targeting of their businesses during the ongoing demonstrations in various parts of Nigeria.
In a video shared by Channels TV, Uzodinma highlighted the plight of Igbo traders whose shops have been looted and attacked in states such as Kano, Lagos, and Borno.
Uzodinma emphasized the significant presence of Igbo-owned businesses across the country, noting that Igbos are actively engaged in various enterprises in different regions. He pointed out that some individuals are exploiting the chaos that often accompanies protests to target and steal from these establishments, causing distress and financial losses to the Igbo community.
During his address, Uzodinma stated, “Our people are very worried. As a result of the attacks on Igbo-owned businesses in Kano and Lagos, the people of the southeast are understandably alarmed, especially the Ndigbo. The Igbos own the stores that are being targeted in Borno State. There are Igbos doing business all around Nigeria. Looting businesses is an inevitable response by thugs whenever there is a demonstration.”
The attacks on Igbo-owned shops have not only resulted in financial losses but have also heightened fears of targeted violence against the Igbo people. Many are calling for swift action from the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of Igbo lives and properties, as well as to bring the perpetrators of these attacks to justice….Seē _ Morē
