According to Punch, former presidential spokesperson for the Labour Party, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has clarified that his backing of former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi stems from a desire to support capable leadership, not for personal gain.
In an open letter on Saturday responding to a prominent Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Dele Momodu, Okupe addressed the motivations behind his political alliances. Momodu had recently written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to curtail excessive spending and focus on vocational training for youths.
Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, also weighed in on the debate, defending Tinubu’s administration in a post titled, “Response To My Beloved Senior, Dele Momodu: Nigeria’s Economy Is Not Collapsing. Far From It!” Omokri praised Okupe’s detailed response to Momodu’s critiques, highlighting its insightful analysis.
Okupe reiterated that his involvement with Saraki and Obi is based on a shared vision for Nigeria’s progress. He compared these alliances to Momodu’s association with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, emphasizing that such relationships are built on common values and a commitment to national development, rather than mere political strategy.
Acknowledging the temporary hardships caused by recent reforms, Okupe maintained that these measures are necessary for long-term economic stability. He commended the government’s efforts to address the challenges facing Nigerians and called for continued diligence in mitigating the impacts of these reforms….Seē _ Morē
