Former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has voiced strong criticism over the dire conditions faced by school pupils in Kano State. In a tweet from his verified account, Sani responded to recent disclosures by the Kano State Governor, revealing that an alarming 4.7 million students are forced to sit on the bare floor during their classes.
Describing the situation as both “sad and unfortunate,” Sani enphasized a deep failure in governance and societal responsibility.
“The revelations made by the Kano State Governor that 4.7 million pupils are sitting on the bare floor is sad and unfortunate,” Sani wrote. “It’s a failure of responsibility by the successive governments in the state. In Kano, there are more than a thousand wealthy people who can solve that problem within 24 hours. This is an indictment on them.”
Sani’s statement comes amidst growing concerns over the state of education infrastructure in Kano, a key region in northern Nigeria. The lack of basic classroom amenities, such as desks and chairs, is a poignant indicator of systemic neglect. Successive administrations have seemingly failed to prioritize or effectively address these fundamental educational needs, leaving millions of young learners in substandard conditions.
Highlighting the stark contrast between the wealth within the community and the pervasive educational deficiencies, Sani called out the affluent individuals in Kano. His assertion that over a thousand wealthy residents could rectify the situation almost immediately if they chose to underscores the broader societal disconnect and the potential for local solutions that remain untapped.……..See More
