Obi: I See Heavy Weight He’s Carrying, But Incapable Of Seeing What’s Right Before His Eyes -Sowunmi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and convener of the Alternative Movement, Segun Sowunmi, has offered a critical assessment of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, raising concerns about his leadership style and political strategy.

Sowunmi made the remarks during an interview on The Volume Podcast aired on Saturday, April 11, 2026, where he reflected on Obi’s recent political engagements and the broader dynamics of electoral competition.

Speaking on Obi’s efforts to mobilize support, Sowunmi said, “And every effort to inspire Peter, as well, because I feel that he’s putting some energy in the last, every effort to inspire him to stand, unless he will measure how much of the message, how much of the energy he has generated can be curated.”

He further argued that inconsistency in positioning weakens leadership influence. “He has dissipated it by, one, not being able to understand that a leader needs to stand before you can start getting people to stand behind you,” he stated.

Highlighting the implications of frequent political shifts, Sowunmi added, “If a leader moves too frequently, every time a leader moves, he loses some energy.”

The PDP chieftain also challenged assumptions about electoral calculations, warning against oversimplified strategies. “They are assuming that election is strictly linear mathematics. Linear mathematics is adding numbers. But no, the elections are multidimensional in their complications of arithmetic,” he said.

Drawing on analytical comparisons, he noted, “Perhaps even if you like Jacobian theory, where there are so many variables you put in before you can get a straight line answer.”

Sowunmi cautioned against what he described as unrealistic political expectations, stating, “And in that regard, you can’t be running after imaginable, imaginary numbers. Like you’re thinking, oh, if I run into Kwankwaso, that automatically gives me, you know, that’s madness.”

Despite his criticisms, he clarified his stance on Obi, saying, “I don’t talk about Peter because I dislike him. I actually do love him. And I see the heavy weight he’s carrying, but I just marvel at how he’s incapable of seeing what is right before his eyes.”

Reflecting on broader leadership perspectives, Sowunmi concluded, “But you know what? We’re only 2020 vision when we’re looking at someone else. Somebody else has to look at us and do 2020 vision.” He added, “So I pray to God Almighty that one day when I want to run for president, there’ll be a family that’ll be looking at me to 2020 vision.”……See More
